Week 2: Can You Judge a Facebook by its Cover?
One week down. . .fifteen short weeks left ;-)
By now, I hope you have created your class blog (I haven't received that many emails), written your Intro Letter (to include a picture in the post), and began to search for peer blogs to comment on. You should also have purchased your TaskStream account and subscribed to ISTE (at the new lower $39 rate).
At the beginning of class on Wednesday I will ensure your blogs are up and running with the required components and that you know how to leave comments on peer blogs, that you can self-enroll in the two required TaskStream portfolios, and you feel comfortable using WebCT and the Mac.
New assignments: I will briefly discuss the EdTechProfile, discuss the Journals 1-5 assignment and requirements, and if time permits, we will take a look at the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS).
Journal 1: "Passport to Digital Citizenship," by Mike Ribble. This is from the December/January 2008-2009. It should be a free download for another few days or until they post the February issue online..
This week's Question: What is your current favorite personal technology device (phone, camera, iPod, etc.) and why?

ReplyDeleteI have to say that my favorite little piece of technology is my Ipod nano. I never thought I would use one, but couldn't turn it away when my husband gave me one for my 40th birthday!!!
ReplyDeleteI use it for music at the gym while on the elliptical, or when walking to school. I use the video feature A LOT. I got hooked on a soap, "Days of Our Lives" and watch that while waiting for my kids at soccer and softball practice. I cannot justify wasting an hour watching it on TV in the middle of the day, so I watch it on my Ipod whenever I have to wait around (or while on the treadmill).
The tomtom and garmin are by far my most needed piece of technology. I can barely find my house... now I can find a mexican taco shop in Montana!
ReplyDeleteMy Cameras are my personal favorite. I have a phone which I somewhat know how to use, I have a ipod shuffle that is almost perpetually lost, but my cameras are always with me and ready to go. I have a flip camera which is a mini camcorder that records 30 minutes to hard drive and I have a panasonic TZ3 camera that I bought for myself last christmas. I would definitely recommend panasonic and the TZ models are terrific since they have 10x optical zoom. (Hear the saleswoman coming through?)
ReplyDeleteThe internet. I need it more than food.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite piece is either my new digital camera or my laptop. I love to take pictures to document my memories, especially with all the cool features it has, but I need my laptop for that too... I love to just sit in bed and edit photos or check my email, so my laptop is awesome too!
ReplyDeletelife without texting..how did we exist! my phone has a keyboard and fills my life with oh so much happiness! and with google text all my life's needs are answered! now to figure out how to text my way through this credential program and life will be grand!
ReplyDeleteMy Blackberry!! It's all of the above and more!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say the IPOD, I remember back in the 80s where when I had the walkman. Trying to run with that in your pocket or in your hand was a pain in the butt. Now its easy the IPOD I love its so easy to put aside and I never have to turn the tape over it just goes on and on with more music. Plus no batteries how could I go wrong.
ReplyDeleteI, personally, love all types of technology, I don't know what my life would be like without them, my blackjack, and the internet are my two must haves everyday.
ReplyDeleteMy current and only is my phone. I've had it less than 2 months, and upgraded from an older version. It doesn't take a lot to impress me technologically because I'm basically technologically challenged! I love the fact that I have all my contacts together in one place, all accessible at the touch of a button.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is my cell phone. I love texting and being available almost anywhere. Having children, I feel it's necessary to be reachable by schools, caregivers, etc. I think the cell is more important to me than email. I don't even have a blackberry, just a regular cell phone.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say my most favorite current technology device is the cell phone. Like most people, I use it to hold a number of people's numbers. I am so dependent on it that the only numbers I know by heart are my house number, my number, and my boyfriend's number. Other than these numbers, I would be lost and clueless without my cellphone. There are definitely negative sides to the cellphone craze but I think that the positives outrule the negatives. Cell phones are so useful to have especially when you are lost. It is also a great and easy way to keep in contact with long distance friends.
ReplyDeleteI love my camera. I currently shoot with a Canon 40D, and am looking into starting a photography business on the side. It took me awhile to come to digital photography, but I've been shooting digitally for 5 years now, and I can't imagine going back to film.
ReplyDeleteOut of every technology device I have ever owned, the BEST, by FARRRR, is the IPhone. I was at first, a skeptic, and would rant how it does too much and no one needs so much in a phone. However, it really is the perfect little device. I can access my email, facebook, myspace, daily suduko, sports scores, etc at the touch of a finger! It really is amazing!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is my camera....I'd rather take pictures than talk on the phone....
ReplyDeleteI do like my blackberry and could not live without it...I'm thinking aboy the ew iphone...could be fun!
I love my nano because i have all my favorite music on it and I use it when I'm jogging. I can't exercise without music. Plus I hate the radio. There is no good music on the radio anymore. I like my digital camera on my Nokia cell phone too. I like keeping my pictures with me and little video clips.
ReplyDeleteDigital Camera is my favorite. Why you ask? If you had three kids and if you are trying to get the perfect Christmas card picture then you will understand.
ReplyDeletePersonal technology device ... the first thing that comes to mind is my personal anchor system (a daisy chain and a couple locking carabiners). The PAC provides great back up and support; and it never fails if you use it correctly. It's simple, but life saving!
ReplyDeleteDigital technology-wise, I'd have to say I use my new MacBook the most. I love the new trackpad! I use my laptop to watch TV, watch movies, keep up with the news, and I even wrote a novel on it in my last semester in undergrad!
Paul-I totally relate to having kids and trying to snap that perfect Christmas card photo :o)
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of the camera on my cell phone. It is really fun snapping quick shots to send friends directly from my phone. I haven't yet figured out if I can download these to my computer or if this is even an option...I'm sure it is...I'll have to look into that.
ReplyDeleteMy iPhone has to be the best piece of new technology that I have purchased in the last 10 years!!! I don't know how I got along without it. Checking email on the go, having half of my music library on demand, video games, streaming video, live news & weather. I'm definitely hooked. It's amazing how much stress is alleviated by the help this device provides... I'm able to get more done in much less time. If only I could send pic and video texts ;-(..........
ReplyDeleteHi Jeff,
ReplyDeleteThe MacBook is the most amazing piece of technology that I've encountered on my all my 27 years!!! While I'm still a bumbling fool, and the computer is waaaay smarter than me, I'm excited about this class, bc I feel it will help me close the intelligence gap between me and this awesome machine.
Hi Jeff and Class Colleagues,
ReplyDeleteMy favorite technological genius is my cell phone which I use primarily for my business. Not only can I schedule appointments and put them on a virtual calendar,I can calculate costs, and take pictures of happy customers. Never in a million years did I think I could come to depend on a cell phone so rapidly!

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI really like my iphone. Yesterday was my daughter's 1st birthday and my husband and I took her to The Aquarium at the Pacific. We didn't get directions before we left, but we didn't need too. I just went to maps on my iphone and got directions while we were driving. I could list the directions or use a map. The coolest thing is the iphone shows you were you are in relation to where you are going. My husband uses google maps frequently on his commute to work. We live in Orange County and he commutes to LA 1x/week and google maps help him check out traffic.
my favorite piece of technology is currently my ipod. I have had it forever, but I just recently started using it. I've been taking it to the gym with me and I just got the doohickey that allows you to listen to it in your car. So, I'm pretty much obsessed.
ReplyDeleteI don't know that I have a favorite technology. I love all of the techno-gadgets that I use in my daily life. I love my Canon PowerShot digital camera because it's user friendly, takes great pictures and videos, and has some awesome in-camera editing options. I love my cell phone because text messaging is pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. I absolutely love using my pink Sony Vaio laptop for schooling and socializing. And last, but certainly not least, I adore my pink iPod nano (2nd generation). I can listen to my favorite tunes and watch my favorite shows and movies on it (like Burn Notice and WALL-E.) Isn't technology great?! :D
ReplyDeleteMy cell phone for sure! However, it has its limitations: the screen doesn't show who is calling, it never gets more than one bar of service, and the battery runs out in 20 minutes. Oh, and the camera stopped working a couple months after I bought it. Maybe I should stop dropping it...
