Week 4: Is Social Bookmarking Considered Tagging?
As we start the forth week of your new conversion to TechnoGeek (although some of already had it in you), you should be developing the mad skillz of the students you will be teaching.
I have graded all of the Intro letters and the EdTechProfiles, so either look for your grade or check to see if you find the assignment back in your inbox. . .
This week: we will discover the amazing world of social bookmarking and begin to learn how to navigate TaskStream.
Journal 3: "Keep Them Chatting", by Jennie Cole in the Feb 09 issue of L&L.
NOTE: Don't forget to follow the Journal article format, e.g., the title of the post should be Journal 1, Journal 2, etc., the APA citation should be created using Citation Machine, and the 2 Questions and Answers should stand out to the reader (me!).
This week's Question: What is your current favorite or all time favorite book or author? Catcher in the Rye is my all-time favorite book and Tortilla Curtain, by T.C. Boyle, is my contemporary favorite novel.

Wow... I've read so many books that's hard to answer. As of now, my favorite author is either James Patterson or Nicholas Sparks - very different books though (murder mystery or romance). My current favorite book is probably "Confessions of a Shopaholic," because I see a glimmer of myself in the main character, haha.

ReplyDeleteI usually like mysteries, so I like Michael Crichton and Dean Koontz. However, I recently got hooked on Stephanie Myers vampire series. I read all four books in two weeks and cannot wait for the fifth book to come out! I had to read it before I let my daughter start reading it to make sure it was appropriate, right?
ReplyDeleteno all time favorites... there are too many really good ones. I really enjoy Jack London, westerns, mysteries. My fiction favorites are Jack Higgins with his political thrillers.
ReplyDeleteI have many favorite books but if I had to choose one, it would be Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt. I read so many different authors that I do not have a favorite.
ReplyDeleteOne of my all time favorite books is The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck. I enjoy reading historical fiction of other cultures. For a fast read I like John Grisham.
ReplyDeleteMy current most favorite book right now is the Twilight Saga. These books had me hooked!!!! It was so exciting and romantic. I loved it!! My current favorite author is Neil Gaiman. His books are just very weird and out there but also very cool. One of my all time favorite movie Stardust was based on his book.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite books right now are Hell's Angels and On Liberty (John Stuart Mill). I also have great fondness for 1984 and Media Control.
ReplyDeleteCatcher and the Rye is one of my all time favorites as well. As far as modern fiction, I love the Harry Potter series, and I currently Reading Fight Club, which I'm throughly enjoying.
ReplyDeleteOff the top of my head, I can't think of one in particular all time or current book or author. I love children's books =] I most recently read the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books.
ReplyDeleteChelsea, one of my favorites is Angela's Ashes also! Frank McCourt also has a good book about his teaching days called Teacher Man. Catcher & the Rye is another fave also... I like a lot of books... So to be original, I'll chose another of my favorite all-time favorites - Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller. Modern favorite would have to be Thousand Splendid Suns.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite books is Devil in the White City by Erik Larsen.
ReplyDeleteI can only narrow my favorites to these:
ReplyDeleteThe Princess Bride
Brothers Karamazov
Anything by C.S. Lewis
My favorite book is also Catcher in the Rye! but if I had to pick a second favorite it would be Blood Covenant, which is about a true life Mob boss who left the family. It's pretty intense and interesting!
ReplyDeleteIt's impossible to choose one. Anything by Edith Wharton (especially House of Mirth and the Age of Innocence)or Thomas Hardy. David Copperfield(Dickens). The Poisonwood Bible (Kingsolver). The Endurance(Alexander). Bell Canto(Pachett). Snow Falling on Cedars. Memoirs of a Geisha. Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood (Wells). Angela's Ashes. Don't let's go to the Dogs (Fuller) Three Cups of Tea(Greg Mortensen). Malcom Gladwell's books. Me talk Pretty One Day (Sedaris),Bleachy Hair Honky B!@#$ (Hollis Gillespie)and Life of Pi--to name a few.
ReplyDeleteHow can I choose?! Some top contenders: Life of Pi, 100 Years of Solitude, The Great Gatsby, Cannery Row and Sweet Thursday. My favorite overall author is probably John Steinbeck.
ReplyDeleteAll time favorite book "Old Yeller" by Fred Gipsin. I sobbed like a baby!
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge Harry Potter fan! I have all the books in hardback.
ReplyDeleteToday, my favorite book is "The Secret Life of Bees," written by Sue Monk Kidd. I read it several years ago, but it is top of mind because I just saw the movie that recently came out in the theaters. It is always a challenge to bring everything the book is to the reader to the big screen. Really, nothing compares to our own imagination of the characters, the emotions and details we take from reading the story, and the assumptions we make about the plot and character's intentions. The movie versions write all of these elements for the viewer and really little is left to for imagination. The movie, "The Secret Life of Bees" was the first movie in a long time that I thought captured everything for me. I just loved this story when I read it and am thinking about reading it a second time.
ReplyDeleteI just finished "The Secret Life of Bees" also, then watched the movie last night. It IS hard to decide on just one...but that's my current favorite. I'm big on Oprah's book list titles...non-fiction is always best.
ReplyDeleteI just started reading older classic books and my favorite as of now is Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book is one I read recently "the boy in the striped pajamas". I thought the view point was fascinating and has had me thinking ever since!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book Is Call of the wild, I read it at least once to twice a year. I as well enjoy reading Dean Koontz for the mystery and suspense. However, I enjoy challenging my mind by reading scientific journal articles to see what advances have taken place on the topics I am interested in.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that I have two favorites:
ReplyDeleteThe Great Gatsby and Of Mice and Men. One could discuss the themes of the two pieces for ages on end.
Elizabeth mentioned Fahrenheit 451 which I also really enjoy. Two summers ago, I taught General Education English (I'm a Mild/Moderate Special Teacher during the regular school year) and the students really got into Fahrenheit. Is it any wonder with all the new and innovative technology?
On the other hand, however, nothing can replace the human spirit!
I really appreciate your value of literature.
A.J.
My favorite classic would be Huckleberry Finn, it's such a great book. My other favorite is Naked by Dave Sedaris, I've read it 5 times and it's always just as funny as the first time!
ReplyDeleteAs a Lit/Writing major I naturally have more than just one favorite novel, so I will just name a few. I enjoy the Left Behind series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. 1984 by George Orwell is definitely a classic. And, like our beloved professor, I, too, absolutely LOVE The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger.
ReplyDeleteThe books I read mostly are children's books that my children read for school such as the Magic Tree House series, Junie B. Jones, Harry Potter series. I am enjoying them b/c I get to spend time discussing and laughing about the books w/ my them.
ReplyDeleteI recently finished The Time Traveler's Wife and really enjoyed it. As for ALL time favorite.. The Phantom Tollbooth! I read it in like 3rd grade and would re read it every year until I was 15. Its a great fantasy book for kids.
