Week 10: If My Spring Breaks, Can I Have it Replaced?

I hope my daughters appreciate how much time I waste trying to do new Photoshop effects to their pictures (click on the picture to get a closer look at how cool this is). . .for the brave, this tutorial can be found on my delicious page under the, you guessed it, photoshop tag.

Almost time for Spring Break. . .some of you probably thought you would never get here. As I work to catch up on all of my grading, I am honestly impressed with just how well you are all doing as a group. . .When I think back to day one, I must admit I was a bit afraid . . . :-) I will get the Inspiration and Copyright assignments graded over break. . .check WebCT for grades and any returned assignments.

This week: we will be introduced to the new collaborative wiki project that we will be doing with Dr. Hanor's 422 classes (I think there are 3!). . .also, I will be going over the Excel Spreadsheet assignment that you will be completing over our break. . .don't forget that there will be a virtual class on April 8.
Note: It would really be in your best interest to work on as much of your TaskStream narratives as you can over the break. All we have left to finish is a Social Justice movie, the EdTechProfile post-assessment, and the narratives for TaskSStream!!

Journal 9: This Comes to us from T-H-E Journal. "The Kids are All Right," by John K. Waters.

Journal 10: (this is for my overachievers who want to finish this assignment over the break ;-) I want you to search L&L or the the Internet for a journal article around an issue educational technology. . .ensure you give it a good citation and perhaps even a link if it is something that I may not have read. I can offer a suggestion, but I won't post it for a week or so.

This week's Question: If I could send you on your ideal vacation over spring break, where would you go and what would you do?

  1. I been all over the world countless times and my favorite place to vacation and or relax is a cabin in Alaska, to get there you have to be flown in. There is not a soul around, the natural beauty is breathtaking and the solitude is breathtaking. The trails, fishing, and observing nature is more than enough to keep anyone busy. Oh but no worries the Cabin is a good size and have running water and electricity so still have the modern comforts just at a out of the way spot.

  2. I am not sure where I would go. My ideal vacation would involve a white sand beach with clear, warm water. I would love to relax on the beach with some good books.

  3. I'd love to go to Hawaii. Never been there and it sounds like fun to relax under a waterfall or on a nice sandy beach and work on my tan (or sunburn as it were).

  4. I would love to go camping at either Yosemite or Yellowstone National Park. I have never been to either place and heard that the scenery is just crazy beautiful. :)

  5. Croatia, I saw the gorgeous beaches on tv, and now I must go! I would relax, nap, read, and then relax.

  6. I would really like to go camping, and I think that maybe I will get to, over Easter!!! I would like to go camping, knit, read, and make s'mores! I would prefer the Jemez mountains, in NM, but I think I might have to poser-camp on "designated" land in California.

  7. I would love to go to Greece. I have never been there and the pictures I've seen look amazing. The beaches, the water, the food...wow! A friend of mine took a sailboat cruise through the islands on her honeymoon. It was just her and her hubby and a personal chef. That sounds ideal to me!

  8. Send me to Japan! I would really enjoy experiencing their culture for a short time, and the waves are actually pretty good in Japan. Not to mention I love sushi and rice so my menu for the week is already taken care of. Thanks... please send the plane tickets to jccooper14@yahoo.com (1st class) :)

  10. Australia to see my brother and sightsee, etc!!

  11. A trip to Fiji would be awesome! I would love to lay out on the beach and soak up some rays... but I would end up spending the time making sand castles and playing with a five year old, not relaxing and sleeping... It would still be fun though! =)

  12. Last spring break I went to Oaxaca, Mexico and I fell in love. Oaxaca has a lot of history and in 2006 it had huge teacher riots and teachers and citizen where trapped in the zocalo and were getting killed. I would love to go back this spring break, now as a perspective teacher, and talk to some of the teachers who survived and lived through the tragedy.

  13. I'm with JC- send me to Japan please! Japanese culture is a fascinating juxtaposition of old and modern. I would love to visit the old castles and temples, as well as explore different parts of Tokyo, in particular Akihabara (Tokyo's high-tech district) and Harajuku (known for crazy Japanese street fashions, such as Gothic Lolita). And I love Japanese food: sushi, rice, ramen, donburi... Yum!

  14. If I could go anywhere in the world next week, I would love to drop everything and go to Italy. I've never been, and its definitely a destination with so many different things to do - whether its the history, seeing the sights, the food, the wine, the people... Since I'm not going next week =(, I guess I'll have to settle with the beaches of San Diego instead!

  15. I would love to take a train ride through the Rockies. Recently, on the Travel Channel, I saw a train modeled after the Orient Express which had all the amenities of a five-star hotel. The train has a wonderful observation car and comfortable chairs! Actually, I would love to travel the entire U.S. in such fashion.

Internationally, I would love to have a ride on one of the bullet trains in either Europe or Asia.

  16. I would go to the Caribbean. My sister just went for her honeymoon and I was super jealous. She came back with beautiful pictures and an awesome tan. I want to go so bad!

  17. I would love to visit Ireland. I have never been there and know a few Irish people, and know what fun they are to hang out with. I would love to see the country and visit some pubs.

  22. One of my favorite places I have ever traveled to was Cinque Terre on the Italian Riviera. It was truly a unique and magical experience...and the water is so salty you actually float! I would love to go back for a little R&R.

  24. I wouldn't be too particular on the specific location necessarily, but I would have one very important requirement - wherever you send me would absolutely have to have a gorgeous beach, and I would have to be allowed to take the trip with my fiance. (Ok, so I guess I had two requirements, but I don't think that I'm asking for too much here!!) A few suggestions for specific locations might be Australia, New Zealand, or Greece. As for what I would do, I'd spend a lot of time relaxing on the beach with my honey, and I besides that I would be a complete tourist and see all the sites that the location you send me to has to offer. :)
